Fotografie Bardney Abbey

Southrey (Lincs), St John the Divine church od Jules & Jenny

This small, unusual, wooden church was built by the parishioners in 1898 as a temporary church. There is a small entrance porch to the west, a western bell turret with large weathercock from 1926, and a small vestry at the west end. It is said to be built on a stone plinth using grave covers taken from Bardney Abbey. The bell is from the demolished Gautby Hall. In 1987 it was covered in a UPVC cladding to protect the original wood, and has been recently repainted and re-carpeted. A new west window has been recently installed to commemorate the sacrifice made by soldiers and airmen from the village during the last 100 years.
